Protesting is Not Everything

Despite the fact that during political protests, Twitter usage has been substantially studied in various contexts, there are still some significant gaps our understanding of ways this microblogging network is employed regular happenings, e.g., elections, particularly authoritarian countries. As a result, it remains unclear if citizens non-democratic countries use to protest at time events as uprisings or not. This investigation tries address gap by providing empirical evidence from Iranian Twittersphere 2017 presidential election. Having networked framing theory, we combined textual and analytic approaches investigate sample 10,416 tweets most influential users retweet (RT) network. Findings demonstrate did not significantly challenge regime power relations Iran. They framed election non-critical way dealing with routine frays debates. also preferred attack politicians rather than discuss contentious deliberate politics. Thus, research reveals always tool for protesting against regimes. At electoral events, could be used an ordinary communication platform.
